12 Questions with Rebecca, our Founder

February marks 12 years of Raspberry Blossom. We asked Rebecca, our founder, twelve questions about running a business, and how she juggles that with motherhood and a social life...

How old were you when you started raspberry blossom?

I was 29 when I started designing the main products, however I think I must have been 22 when I bought the domain name. I’d just finished uni and started a new job when I bought the Raspberry Blossom domain name, so it was a little while before I actually started the business!

What did you do before you became a full-time designer?

I studied Graphic Design at uni, then I worked with a variety of marketing and design agencies over 10 years in Birmingham and London.

What was the toughest struggle you faced in the early days of running a business?

I’d say it was the juggle, and it probably still is! I ran Raspberry Blossom while also working full time, and I did that for three years. It’s also the growth stage - we were fortunate that my parents did some of the fulfilment in the early years, and Mark’s parents did too - but yeah, it’s that juggle of growing the business while also doing another career!

What does "The Home of Joyfulness" mean to you?

Every product that we produce, whether that's with our customer service or with our team, it's all about joy. Every product has to bring a smile. In the world that we live in today, those little everyday moments of joy mean so, so much.

What’s your favourite thing about being a designer?

Oh, my favourite thing about being designer is the freedom that I get to explore and experiment. There's loads of things going on in my head, and I love that I'm able to put pen to paper and then produce a product, whether it's our lovely vases or our greeting cards, and then you see people enjoy them! So, yeah, I think it's having that love of putting something out there into the world that brings people joy.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out?

Definitely “just go for it”! Don't hold back. I think you can sometimes overthink things and worry about starting. And then the other important thing is to really find your niche; especially in the greeting cards world, there are so many designers and I think it's about forgetting all the noise around you and really honing in on what's your creative, what's your look, what's your brand.

How do you juggle parenting and running a business?

Um, not very well! That's a really tricky one. It always has been, and I think it always will be. My children are six and four at the minute. What we try to do is get them involved in the business as much as possible, so they understand. I will do some craft sessions while I'm designing with Ophelia or Reuben next to me. I'm very fortunate that they love drawing. And then it’s a mix of after school clubs, friends, family and just relying on that support network around you as well.

How do you like to unwind?

I love a glass of wine and a girly night out and catch up with friends, because you can completely forget the stresses of the day. I've got a lovely group of friends here and also from uni. So I really enjoy seeing my girls. And then also having a really nice chilled weekend. So on a Saturday or a Sunday, walking into town and having a nice brunch with the kids; just having a “no to do list” kind of day with the children.

What’s your favourite design in the new collection?

Picking a favourite design in the new collection is really tough because I do love a lot of them! There are a few that come to mind though. In the Verve collection, there's a bow design, which I love (still obsessed with bows!) the green foil really pings, and I just think it's a really simple design. But then there's a little ice cream one too in our children's; I really enjoy doing the children's. Plus there’s lots of lovely type in our new Joyfoilly range, and gorgeous die cuts in Brightside! So yeah, it's hard to pick one!

Which part of your role is trickiest?

Probably the trickiest bit is managing and developing the team, really. As a creative, it's something that I have done in the past, but not the whole business side of things! So I think it's just juggling those as well. It’s having so many different hats. I would love to be able to just draw every day, but that isn't going to grow the business.

Which part of your role gives you the most joy?

Definitely the designing side of things. And being able to see everything come to life and having that kind of gratitude that comes from people enjoying your things! I think that's definitely the thing that brings me joy.

What's one big dream you have for Raspberry Blossom in 2026?

For all of us just to have fun with it! We're a growing team and we've got lots of fun projects for 2026, plus some new, really exciting products! But I just think this year for us is about having fun and experimenting and just to really enjoy the time!
